Nation’s Oldest Memorial Day Parade

By | June 2, 2014

[June 02, 2014] A number of cities strive for the honor of being many things and this is no different from Brooklyn, New York claiming to have America’s oldest and continuously run Memorial Day parade. To be the oldest parade in tribute to our military is a privilege and an honor. It is also shows pride that past leaders in the community had enough foresight to establish the parade.

Parade-300This year Gold Star mothers who lost their children in war served as the grand marshals for the 147th annual Kings County Memorial Day Parade … just one week ago today.1 The Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper has some great photographs of the people in the community and the parade.2

My respect goes out to the borough of Brooklyn and to all their community leaders for continuing this tradition.
