Rivers of Recovery

[November 20, 2014] Regular readers of theLeaderMaker.com know that when I see an example of leadership, I’ll let them know about it. Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet some great people in a group called Rivers of Recovery. It’s a non-profit organization that relies on ordinary folks like you and me to help arrange medically-proven outdoor recreational rehabilitation programs to combat veterans.

Their mission1 is “rehabilitation to physically and psychologically injured combat veterans through innovative, outdoor-based therapies and pioneering research.” This is done at no cost to the combat veterans. It also means that if they need to transport a veteran by commercial airplane, they will pay the cost. In speaking with Jon “JC” Cummings, a member of their board of directors and ex-Navy Seal, he was able to state clearly to me how their program is able to make significant improvements in each of the veterans they serve. Many organizations claim a benefit; Rivers of Recovery can prove it. And, at less than half the cost of VA treatment. How great is that?

They are helping vets have richer lives. By helping these vets, they are adding to the nation’s voice that are thanking our military for what they have done for us. Thanks to “JC” and his board of directors, the folks at Rivers of Recovery, and all their supporters2 for what they do.

This is leadership in action.
