Down With the Pope’s Political Games

By | April 17, 2026

[April 17, 2026]  The new Pope, Leo, just picked a fight with our President Donald J. Trump. He started it. Trump did not. The Pope went on social media and blasted Trump’s handling of the conflict in Iran. He dressed his attacks in religious garb. That was a mistake. Trump fired back, and the Pope kept swinging. Good for Trump. No one, not even the head of the Catholic Church, gets a free pass to slam American policy from the Vatican (you know, the place with walls & guards).  I may be a nobody and I’m no Catholic, but I know voluntary ignorance when I see it, and so does the American public.  Pope Leo is delusional.

Here is the truth. When Leo was just Robert Prevost from Chicago, he was already a loud left-winger. He used social media to attack Republicans for years. Now he wears the white robes and thinks that gives him the right to lecture the President of the United States. It does not. Popes are supposed to guide souls, not play politics. Leo crossed that line the day he decided to attack Trump on foreign policy.  Pope Leo didn’t see the storm he just helped create.  How stupid can you get?  Oh yeah, he’s a leftist and that explains the spewing of leftist propaganda.

This is not new. Pope Francis did the same thing. He talked endlessly about economics, global warming and open borders. He knew less about those subjects than the average truck driver in Ohio. A few years back, a Catholic tour guide in Rome told visitors she agreed with that view. She just could not say it out loud while on the job. Francis turned the Church into a left-wing think tank. Leo is following the same script.

Most Americans are sick of this schtick. The Catholic Church claims to speak for two billion people. Fine. Stick to the Bible. Stick to faith and morals. Stop telling America how to defend itself. Iran has been a problem for decades. It funds terror, builds nukes and ballistic missiles, threatens our allies, and kills American soldiers. Trump is dealing with it the way a strong leader should.  He does it by protecting American interests. The Pope calls that wrong. He is wrong.  And the Pope is doubling down on wrong.

Look at the facts. Trump did not start the argument. The Pope did. He posted attacks that sounded like Democratic Party campaign speeches. Then he acted shocked when Trump answered. That is how politics works. If you dish it out, you take it. Leo wants to play in the big boy leagues of policy debate. Then he should expect pushback like any other public figure.  He didn’t and was stunned.

The real problem goes deeper. The College of Cardinals keeps picking Popes who lean left and love the spotlight. They ignore candidates who would stay out of politics. Instead, they choose men who sound like they belong on CNN or NPR or MS NOW. Robert Prevost was no secret. His old posts showed exactly where he stood. The cardinals knew. They picked him anyway. That tells you something about the direction of the Church.  Pathetic.

Catholics in America built this country. They fought in every war. They fought beside me in Vietnam.  They raised strong families. They believe in hard work and self-reliance. They do not need a Pope in Rome telling them their president is the problem when Islam is the problem. Most American Catholics voted for Trump. They know he keeps his promises on borders, energy, and national defense. The Vatican elite live in a bubble. They fly private jets and lecture the rest of us about climate change. Meanwhile, they cannot balance their own books or stop the scandals inside their walls.

This fight shows how out of touch the modern Church has become. Religion should unite people under God. Instead, Leo is dividing them along party lines. He attacks a president who won a clear election by promising to put America first. That is not spiritual leadership. That is election interference from a foreign leader who pays no U.S. taxes and faces no voters.

Trump’s response was perfect. He told the truth. The Pope stepped into the ring. He got hit back. Now the whole world sees it. No more hiding behind robes and Latin phrases. The Pope is a political player, and a bad one at that. He knows nothing about military strategy or the real threats from Iran. He just repeats the same tired slogans from the European and American left.

The Catholic Church needs a reset. Pick a Pope who prays more than he posts. Pick one who knows the difference between saving souls and pushing socialism. If the Cardinals want to play politics, at least pick someone who understands economics and history. Right now, they keep choosing left-wing activists who embarrass the faithful.  So sad.

Americans are not buying it. We respect the Church’s role in private life. We do not respect it when Popes try to run our government from overseas. Trump is right to fight back. Every real American should cheer him on. The Pope does not run America. He never will. If Leo keeps this up, he will only prove one thing: the Vatican has lost its way. Time for the Church to get back to basics before it loses even more respect.

The Pope’s political attacks on Trump over Iran are just nuts. He started this fight, not the President. Popes must guide souls, not play left-wing games. Leo’s history as a partisan hack exposes his agenda. Stick to faith and morals, not Democratic talking points. The Vatican elite divide the faithful with socialist nonsense. American Catholics reject this foreign interference. Trump rightly pushes back against Vatican hypocrisy. The Church embarrasses itself with clueless foreign policy rants. Cardinals keep choosing activists who love the spotlight. Down with the Pope’s political games—return to basics now.
