Off Topic: American Pickers

By | May 12, 2014

[May 12, 2014] While I do not watch much television, especially reality shows, I do watch occasionally one called the American Pickers. The show is about buyers (“pickers”) who travel the country picking old items for sale in their store, for clients, or in some cases for the personal collections.

American-Pickers-325When my wife and I began watching the show in 2010, now in its fourth season, we both liked it and were regular viewers. What I could not figure out was why I liked it … being a person who does not regularly watch these type of shows. Perhaps it was just because the show was entertaining and of course, it is very entertaining.

Yet, what I’ve come to realize is that the show takes the personal traits of audacity and freedom of spirit and transforms them into what strikes me as something that is really really cool. I think that Americans like those traits and that explains the success of the show.
