9/11: Now 21 Years Ago – Remember!

By | September 11, 2022

[September 11, 2022]  Exactly 21 years ago today, on September 11, 2001, it was a day that it seemed the world stood still for a full day in all 195 countries on Earth.  The victims of the terrorist attack that occurred in New York City (the twin towers), Washington DC (at the Pentagon) and Shanksville, PA.  9/11 is a date we must remember.

Of the 2,977 victims killed on September 11th, 415 were emergency workers in NYC who responded to the World Trade Center.  And to them, we owe a special gratitude.

Our Firefighters and our police have an ethos … to protect our citizens and their property.  All of them are part of that, a noble goal.  The highest of moral aims.  And so I congratulate them for what they do.

I also served my country, but as an ordinary foot soldier, serving across the world.   But I did learn a few valuable things that I want to share.  I learned that America is a beacon of hope in a troubled, dangerous world where evil is often just around the corner.

We Americans stand for good,

  • we stand for life,
  • we pull for the underdog,
  • we defend the weak and the helpless,
  • we rush into buildings on fire to rescue those trapped,
  • we put our lives on the line to protect our citizens against crime,
  • we provide life-saving emergency medical care,
  • we give our time and money to help the downtrodden and extend our hand to lift them up so they may stand on their two feet,
  • we believe in our families
  • we adore our communities,
  • we value honesty, truth, and individual responsibility
  • we hold our faith closely,
  • and we look to the future that holds a better life for our children.

We don’t look backward to the past or long for the tribalism or feudalism or corrupt ideologies of the past.  We believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as individuals.   No other peoples are as generous as Americans.

And that is what makes America great.

Why is it that Americans are so willing to help others?

The answer is because we’re Americans, that’s what we do.   It’s built into our very nature.  It’s part of our American DNA.

9/11 may have knocked us down, but – look around – we’re stronger, more capable than ever.  Those Americans you see all around you will come if you need them.  They are our modern-day heroes.   They are at the tip of the spear.  They are those who run into danger when others run away.  Always remember 9/11.

Aren’t you damn proud to be Americans.

Yeah, I thought so.

Great article Gen. Satterfield for honoring our service men and women, and first responders too. Made my day. I also went to my local township’s 9/11 ceremony and met some new patriotic families. No commies were in attendance that day.

Evil. Some relatives also lament that a nation which came together — to some extent — after the attacks has since splintered apart. So much so that federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies, which were reshaped to focus on international terrorism after 9/11, now see the threat of domestic violent extremism as equally urgent.

Gen. Satterfield, thank you for recognizing that 9/11 is a day to never remember and to never let our guard down. Else, we will be slaughtered like so many in the Islamic religion want. That is why they still celebrate 9/11 as an attack on the “great Satan.” They problem they don’t see is that they are the great Satan.

Hi Rev Cain. Too many folks in the world have no idea what evil is or what it does. They just can’t see it.

Other communities around the country are marking the day with candlelight vigils, interfaith services and other commemorations. Some Americans are joining in volunteer projects on a day that is federally recognized as both Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Go to a local event. Speak with those there. They are the ones who are most involved and supportive of those who live near you. They are the ones that will come to you if you need them.

Well said, Max and once again you’ve nailed it. I will add that if someone is just blowing off 911, then you need to set them straight.

…. and exactly the reason I read Gen. Satterfield’s leadership forums and his blog. I also read his book, “Our Longest Year in Iraq.” You can’t find a better, ground level view of the world.

We should see the tragedy of fallenness in the 9/11 attacks, along with the glimmer of God’s image and wisdom in the way that women and men of all sorts recognized evil acts and rallied together to help those harmed by it.

Great article today Gen. Satterfield, thanks for once again remembering. Never ever forget. Never ever forget who perpetrated the horror; for they must always pay a price until they rebuke those who caused it. Islam is in decline like it has been for more than a thousand years. It continues to destroy. It is itself a force that spins off evil.

Lovely, peaceful. The opposite of what we hear from our politicians in Washington DC.

Really? Don’t expect much else. The squeaky wheel is getting the oil. The rest of us who are respectful get zip.

Pandering to a select group of people is called RACISM. And nothing else is more of a betrayal to others and why in America we don’t like it.
