Book Signing on a Range

By | December 12, 2021

[December 12, 2021] I had a book signing at my favorite local shooting locale this past Friday afternoon.  Range 129, located in the town next to mine, is a large, clean, family-run business; and it shows in their exemplary customer service.  The owners were kind enough to permit me to sell my books and bought a few, as well.

A few of my friends thought the idea of a book signing would not be worth my time, but the opposite was true.  Even if I didn’t sell a single book (note, I sold a lot), I would still find the time spent valuable.  I met a lot of American patriots.  The folks coming in to shoot are generally good people with a great attitude about our military and guns.

I was surprised a bit by the number of women who came in to shoot.  Usually, shooting is a “man’s sport,” and women are rare.  Not this past Friday.  Women were there; of all ages, sizes, and skill levels.  A number were there to shoot for their first time.  And, they wanted to know how to handle a gun safely and to shoot “one shot, one kill.”

Of the “civilians” who came through the door, there was a special agent from the Defense Criminal Investigate Service, a Fire Official from a city nearby, an Air Marshall, two Police officers (off duty), several business folks, local town volunteers, some of my neighbors, and a host of friendly walk-ins who wanted to see what Range 129 was all about.

What a great way to meet people!  My book signing at a local restaurant back in October was a lot of fun but the people eating were not interested in guns as much as those coming to the range (go figure).  Everyone seemed to be interested in what I had to say.  As a side note, my wife encouraged me to greet people directly instead of coming to me.  Gosh, she was right.  More people engaged us with conversation.

Will I do another book signing at a range?  Yes, and I’m sure it will also be successful and fun.

While at the book signing, I brought in two older U.S. military rifles from the late 1800s.  I wanted one of the owners to give me a reasonable price to upgrade to a modern AR-15 variant.  I’ve not decided which one I want, but my wife might get me one for Christmas.

As a side note to young men and women, shooting ranges are a great place to meet people you might want to spend more time with.  I’ll do another book signing here.  I’ve already been invited back.

“Will I do another book signing at a range? Yes, and I’m sure it will also be successful and fun.” As long as your next book signing is in Chicago, IL near me….. hahahahah…. I know it won’t be but I can dream, can’t I. Thanks, Gen. Satterfield for your continued contributions to the idea that leadership has value.

Gen. Satterfield, good job getting out and meeting others to help tell the REAL story about the war in Iraq. Yes, the media is going to spin it like Vietnam. The soldiers, they will say, were just robots following the capitalist corporate greed narrative.

Correct. That is why I keep coming back to this senior leadership website and read these articles daily. If you are not on this website, you are missing out. Tell your friends. Give them something for Christmas that doesn’t cost anything — a link to this website. Oh, and maybe give them a copy of Gen. Satterfield’s book “Our Longest Year in Iraq.”

JT and Yusaf, I know you two have been long time readers of this blog and have repeatedly helped others like me to navigate both this site and give recommendations to other places to learn more about leadership. For that, thanks! I just wanted to note that this leadership forum is a great place to test out ideas and thoughts and still get valuable, polite feedback. All of us need feedback and sometimes the feedback is not what we want to hear. But that is the price you pay for getting better.

Hey guys, it’s getting close to Christmas and it’s still not too late to order the new book by Gen. Satterfield. I read mine and recommend it to everyone, including young individuals who want to know more than the fake news media tells us.

I’m sure you had a wonderful time meeting real patriots. Shooting ranges are the right place for meeting the best of people. Generally they are young, motivated, unafraid, happy, and honest. Those are the kind of people I also like to be around all day.

…… or you can be around sulking, hateful, depressed, victim inducing peons who are on the political left who would put you and I into an oven so they can “purify” the earth.

Of course, that is what I’ve found also. The best people I know go to gun ranges. They love it there for the comradery and companionship of the likeminded.
