Failure of the Titan Submersible & Woke Thinking

By | June 24, 2023

[June 24, 2023]  We now know the Titan submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions experienced a “catastrophic implosion,” killing all five aboard her, including the now-deceased CEO Stockton Rush.

But the Woke Ideology of Mr. Rush, believing he was being “innovative” and “inspirational” by removing old white, experienced men from his team who objected to poor safety protocols, led to him overlooking safety standards and his death and the death of others.

“When I started the business, one of the things you will find is that other sub-operators out there, but they typically have gentlemen who are ex-military submariners, and you will see a bunch of 50-year-old white guys.  I wanted our team to be younger, to be inspirational, and I’m not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go pursue marine technology.  But a 25-year-old who’s a sub-pilot, a platform operator, or one of our techs can be inspirational.  So we’ve really tried to get very intelligent, motivated, younger individuals because we are doing things that are completely new.” – OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush

According to various sources, CEO Rush was piloting the Titan during its fatal voyage.  He had stated previously that innovations require disrupting norms.  In a June 2019 Smithsonian Magazine article, Rush said the current law was well intended but overly cautious by putting “passenger safety over commercial innovation.”  He said the commercial sub-industry hasn’t innovated or grown because of these regulations.

Unfortunately, many lost their lives in what is being described as an avoidable accident.  Mr. Rush was firmly wedded to his woke ideology and rejected the experienced advice of a bunch of “old white guys.”  This is the inevitable result of selecting people to do a job based not on merit but on their age and skin color.

… and you are surprised that a woke person would win the Darwin Award this year?

Good comment American Girl. When ideology reigns supreme, then you will see nothing that falls outside it. Just take the Russian communists who don’t see they are losing the war against the Ukraine. They are seeing themselves as ‘saving humanity from the Nazis.” How crazy can you get? Too many folks are blindly following a pernicious ideology without thinking. That is why it is so easy to convince them that they are not only right but morally right and everythng is easy.

I’m sad for the families of those who are lost and to place this entirely on the woke ideology of Mr. Stockton Rush, might just be a little oversimplified. But let us wait and see. His wokeness did make a difference and says something when you sacrifice safety for “inspiration.”

Yes, let’s wait and see. But I do think it is clear, based on Mr. Rush’s comments, that his wokeness played a big part of his daily decisions and lack of smarts.

Gen. Satterfield is, once again, all over the issue. Wokeness is a horrifically failed mode of thinking.

Wendy. I agree. ❤ But it won’t get out much because the media want to protect this woke idiot.

It is going to take a lot more failures and a lot more catastrophic before folks wake up and realize that woke ideology is a death sentence from hell.

In my opinion, life is full of risks, and one should not tempt fate by taking risks needlessly. We all take risks for what we consider good reasons: the soldier when he enlists in the Army, the explorer who opens new territories to settlement, and so on. But one shouldn’t take substantial risks for the thrill of it, for ego gratification, and so on. Life is plenty risky enough without going looking for trouble.

In my opinion, one should not go bungee jumping or skydiving. (Paratroopers of course are another matter.) And I don’t think one should drop two miles down in the ocean in an untested submersible without a very, very good reason.

Why o why do those who think they are so morally wonderful – all those who say they are Woke – are also those who fail dramatically and then want to say they failed due to racism (ignoring their own practiced racism)? Just thinking that might just be a sign of mental illness. Remember, liberalism is truly a mental disorder.

Yeah, I was about to write the same, idiot savant. Good to hear from you again, BTW. I have been struggling in my job lately because my company promotes blacks and women over more experience guys like me. Just trying to feed my family and do the right thing but it is harder and harder. If my boss promoted me over a better co-worker because of my race or sex, I would turn the promotion down. Clearly a lot of blacks and women lack that character.
