Is patriotism Dead?  (a radio program)

By | February 22, 2022

[February 22, 2022] I was on “Veterans Talk”1  at  KDWN 720AM/101.5FM radio this past Saturday.  The show’s theme was based on the question, Is Patriotism Dead?  Not to give away too much, but I argue that American patriotism is not dead, and I list the reasons why.  The interview format worked well as the dialogue flowed – mostly me talking – from one topic to another; those things that concern real Americans.

Here are a few outtakes that the radio station thought were the best.

On Patriotism:

I’m going to tell you that I’m an American Patriot.  I don’t apologize for it.  I embrace it.  Patriotism means being loyal to your nation.  Not blind patriotism but the kind that recognizes there is always room for improvement, and you have the direct responsibility to personally help make things better.  And, by the way, being an American Patriot is not dependent upon your social status, who you know, your job, where you come from, your political party, or your skin color.  Patriotism is an idea.  It can be stigmatized and suppressed, but the idea cannot be destroyed by any law or edict.  Patriotism is not dead.

On Joining the U.S. Military:

“What would I tell a young person about entering the military?”  1.) be prepared to get hit real hard by reality.  2.) You may think you are ready, but you aren’t.  Take my word for it; you aren’t ready, so get prepared as best you can.  Before you join, Get in shape.  Get up early.  Make your bed.  Practice telling the truth (or you will get sandblasted by reality).  Eat right.  Learn to be brutally honest.  Don’t bullshit yourself (or others).  Never betray your country or brothers in arms.  Never complain (we don’t like whiners).  Don’t assume nuttin’.  Get used to cold showers; life is tough.  The Boy Scouts say it best, “BE PREPARED.”   Life is, indeed, very hard; it’s even harder when you’re stupid and unprepared.  Do these things every day, no excuses, every day.  That way, you won’t be stupid.

We spoke at length about America’s pullout from Afghanistan.  I add some new dimensions to the decision by President Biden and the horrific failures of U.S. General Mark Milley.

General Mark Milley should have taken his stars off his collar and thrown them down on Biden’s desk.

We also talked about my book, Our Longest Year in Iraq and why I wrote it and some of the ideas that I captured in it.  Thanks to all who have purchased my book.  Please give it a review on Amazon.  Thank you!

Gen. Satterfield, outstanding interview. Wow. I will suggest that you begin a podcast channel. That way we can listen to what you are thinking while we are traveling in our cars. Also, your book “Our Longest Year in Iraq” should have an audio version.

Veronica…. I agree with your suggestions for Gen. Satterfield to go the audio route to supplement his leadership website. I say, “go for it.” “Get ‘er done!”

Gen. Satterfield has shared with us one of his radio shows and, what else can I say, it was a great conversation. Warning to snowflakes, you will be triggered.

Excellent. I’ll be sharing this audio with my wife and her women friends. They are a bit “liberal” in their views (and thus a bit entrenched by the media-political leftist socialist PC ideology). Entrenched is the operative word here. They need to hear from strong men.

I just finished listening to the entire 56 minutes or so. I must say that the interview was great. I wish the hosts had introduced you right up front so folks had a better understanding of who they were talking to. well done!!!!!!

Noticed the same thing. It looks like this was only the second week for this program so the hosts are working out a few bugs.

Great advice for any one who cares to listen: “Life is, indeed, very hard; it’s even harder when you’re stupid and unprepared. “

I’m finding your website to be more sophisticated each time I long onto it. And, best of all the entire experience is FREE. Oh, I know you have a new book out, Gen. Satterfield. I bought it. Well written for the average person.

I bought his book too. I highly recommend the paperback edition over the Kindle version. The former can be written in, underlined, highlighted, etc. That gives you (or me) a chance to go back and reference something important. Then we can send a question direct to Gen. Satterfield via email at douglas.r.satterfield@gmail.com or to his forums, right here. And, now we can hear him as well. Gen. S., please have more of these radio shows or just to hear your voice. Consider adding content to YouTube, Gettr, Rumble, etc.

Anita. Excellent suggestions. By the way, I’ve already considered as such and I will have a surprise in the next few months on this very thing. Technology is my last hurdle.

    Ouch! Tough advice:

Gen. Satterfield, thanks and GREAT interview. Just a couple of pointers. 1) be aware you are triggering woke people [you probably don’t care anyway] and 2) it would be much better if we could see you. I know radio is voice but this program has a video part to it – saw it via the livestream on Facebook.

Right, and I’ll add a third. 3) sometimes the audio is hard to understand. Maybe because I’m old but just need better audio.

Hey, Gen. Satterfield, good to hear you are starting to branch out onto radio programs. Last year, I believe you were on the Joe Griffies show, our first. Keep it up, but I don’t think we are going to see you on CNN anytime soon.

Frank, good point and a bit humorous about CNN, the station that has few employees left after their continued disastrous “leadership.” Failure is their name. That is what happens when you go full ‘woke.’ ✔

CNN employees are so few, they are going to have to start harassing themselves.
