Showing Moral Courage: Canadian Pastor

[May 16, 2021]  There is no philosophy, political system, or weapon so formidable as the moral courage of free men and women.  Moral courage is a deterrent to despots and tyrants of all stripes.  That is why I was heartened by the moral courage that Canadian Pastor Artur Pawlowski showed for having an “unauthorized church service” in Canada.1

After many decades in service to my country, I came to realize that moral courage is rare.  During my time in combat, I witnessed great acts of physical courage.  Yet, I cannot say that I have seen great moral courage.  When I hear about it, I write about it.  That is the reason for my blog post today.

Pastor Pawlowski, born in communist Poland, is a hero to many other freedom-loving citizens and me throughout the world.  He had rightly received praises from people worldwide for ordering several police and public health officers off his church’s property when they interrupted a Passover Mass at Street Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.2

Later, the pastor and his brother were arrested for holding an “illegal” in-person gathering per COVID19 limits set by a new court order.  A video was posted to YouTube (see link here, 7:59 minutes) that shows Calgary Police Service (in at least five police vehicles) arresting the two in the middle of a large roadway.

Canadians are typically passive, friendly folks.  The strong courage of Pastor Pawlowski displayed surely caught the police by surprise.  However, Canadian politicians believe deeply in their righteousness and have little use for religious freedom.  America is moving in the same direction despite our First Amendment expressly allowing religious freedom.

This pastor has real guts.  I want him on my team.  Frankly, I do not feel sorry for the police because they enforced an order from their mayor (who happens to be a Muslim) when they should have refused – and shown moral courage themselves.  Instead, they chose the path of cowardice.

The Canadian police are being called Nazis and communists.  Moreover, no one should wonder why.  The city of Calgary has fascist tar all over itself.

LOVE this pastor. And I didn’t think the Canadians had it in them to resist the mob.

I’m appalled by what I saw in this video. The pastor was right to call the police names (right out of the liberal playbook). Throwing around terms like Nazi, etc. does have its place and this is one of them. I wish the pastor and his brother all the best. They are they kind of folks we need everywhere who are willing to stand up to evil and, yes, we are fighting evil here folks.

Evil has its way with us now. Maybe more leaders – like Donald Trump – will be willing to step into the fray and help us.

This incident is a tragedy in many many ways. I am a Christian, perhaps not the best, but I do know the difference betw/ right and wrong. Clearly, the pastor should not have been arrested and to do so in such a public manner. Wow, Canada has sure gone downhill and fast. Just like so many so-called democracies. And yet, the USA is still the democratic leader but elected a feeble minded idiot as president. Go figure.

Excellent article, Gen. Satterfield. This is one of the reasons I keep reading your blog. I find that I can learn leadership and a bit of morality at the same time.

Great quote Gen. Satterfield, “There is no philosophy, political system, or weapon so formidable as the moral courage of free men and women.”

I don’t feel sorry for the police. They should display a bit of moral courage and not follow their orders. Maybe I could put them in touch with some of the Nazi German officers who sent Jews to death camps to be gassed to death and then cremated. They were just following orders too. Maybe we could start a club.

“Canadians are passive” – you got that right. And they will lose their democracy at this rate just like we are.

I agree, this pastor has real guts. I too want him on my team. Of course, the Canadian police, their “health” professionals, and their political classes are the Nazis of our day. Just like in many other countries around the world. It didn’t take much for them to go full fascist.

I watched the video that Gen. Satterfield linked to over and over. My opinion, the police are being put into a no-win situation. They are used as the spearhead to immoral and (in the US) unconstitutional acts. Once we supported the police but we see them as the jackboot thugs of privileged, exempt from their own laws political class that does not care one hoot about the common man.

…. and this pastor was a religous man. You would think the police and politicians would be concerned about something important. Oh, I see, crushing Christianity is important – to them.

You got that right. Now the Muslims do it within the law. How convenient. If the law is not there, do it anyway.

How sad. More attacks on Christianity. Has anyone yet seen a shutdown of a Muslim mosque? Or Hindu place of worship (in Canada or US)? I think not.

Anyone who has not watched these videos, should go out, find them, and watch. This pastor was great. He extorts the police as Nazis and fascists (actually he means using such tactics). The police represent the local political scene which is run by hyper-liberals like their Muslim mayor. Canadians are getting their butts kicked and they are doing it to themselves. How embarrassing for a so-called democratic country.

Butt kicking, yup. These Canadians surely know how to punch themselves out of a paperbag (of socialism) NOT.

Great comment, Max. We saw many state governors and mayors doing something similar here in the USA. THey just bundled the laws that made going to church services with other similar orgs. But, there is a difference because here, there is something called the First Amendment.

Yeah, but our political elite ignored the constitution and the US Supreme Court punted their responsibility. Tells us a lot about our justice system and that telling is not good.

I lost a lot of respect for our Supreme Court. Their job? Ensure laws are constitutional. Even a first grader knows enough to say that when you pass laws restricting church services then you are stomping on our Constitution.

Max, you are spot on with this comment and, oh, great analysis as well. Why do citizens of large cities elect such people to lead them? They must have some psychological problem.
