Bad Idea, Bad Decision: Disney

By | February 23, 2021

[February 23, 2021]  I’ve seen some dumb decisions in my day that have had dire consequences.  One of those was when an inexperienced Army major decided he would lead a convoy through a hostile area.  This happened during my first combat tour in Iraq.  And, there are more dumb decisions.  Disney just slapped a warning on “The Muppet Show,” bad idea, bad decision, Disney.

Of all the Muppets, my favorite character is “Animal.”  Animal, pictured in the thumbnail to this article, was originally performed by Frank Oz, an American actor, puppeteer, and filmmaker.  I don’t know why I like Animal so much. Maybe he reminds me of my roots in the rural areas of Northeast Louisiana of the 1950s.  Today, he remains one of the most popular Muppets.

As of late, Disney has made some darn poor decisions.  First by cutting Gina Carano from the Star Wars derivative “Mandalorian.”  For a humorous view on this subject, read the Babylonbee article on it here.  And, now by slapping a warning on the Muppets.  Miss Piggy would be outraged.

Before you can see “The Muppet Show,” you will get this warning:

“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures.  These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.  Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.”

Why in the world would such an idiotic ‘warning’ be put on the show?  Maybe some people would complain on Twitter and that is no big deal.  Right now, “woke” corporate cowardice is hot hot hot.  Really!  It is remarkable how corporations like Disney have grown frightened of leftist bloggers and others trolling on Twitter and other similar low-level social media platforms.

It gets better:

“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”

I don’t think Disney is interested in any theme that doesn’t walk in lockstep with their woke views.  Maybe their warning might have had some meaning if Disney hadn’t thanked the Chinese government (read that as the Chinese Communist Party) for allowing them to film their movie Mulan in northwest China.  The CCP has been widely condemned for detention and surveillance of Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups in Xinjiang.  Is there a double standard here?

Every day people can watch any episode of The Muppet Show and not think anything of it … except to enjoy it.

Did anyone seriously think Disney or any corporation would seriously not fold under the pressure of our “woke” generation? I didn’t. There is little blowback from the average person walking the street, has a job and family, goes to church, and helps his/her community. Only the basement dwelling, leftist, nutjobs are the ones who put up a stink. Why? They have no job and are only full of hate.

You got that right Georgie. Haven’t heard from you in a while. Glad to have you back in Gen. Satterfield’s comment forums where we hash over new ideas.

Thanks Gen. Satterfield for keeping us informed on the new trend in corporate decision making. It shows that anyone can be trapped by their own inward thinking and ideologies.

What? You have got to be kidding me!! Disney is giving a WARNING about the Muppet Show? They cannot be that wildly stupid. But, I guess that they are. Wow.

I will watch the Muppet Show any time I like and I will enjoy it. Like all the other “warnings” they give us, I will simply ignore it. Yes, I know, their warning shows their abject stupidity but they are just trying to protect their rearends from the Twitter mobs. Cowardice? Absolutely yes.

Yep, cowardice is contagious — at least according to Gen. Satterfield and I think he is spot on with that idea.

Good article, so thanks Gen. Satterfield. Also, I appreciate you letting me know about this. My kids won’t be watching the Disney Channel anymore. They won’t like it, but better that my wife and I don’t subject them to this propaganda any longer. We’ll be doing more outdoor activities that they enjoy and keeps them from getting fattened up on leftist ideology.

Good for you, Kenny. I don’t think the average American has the brainpower to think the way you do. We would all be better off if everyone did the same. Send a simple message that we won’t tolerate this racism on the part of Disney.

A tragedy of failed leadership at Disney. I agree with Gen. Satterfield that this is “woke” leaders gone very wrong. I have revoked by Disney channel and gave up cable tv altogether. I want to send a message that I won’t cooperate with their ignorance.

Better to go without television altogether. Their senior corporate executives think they have us over a barrel. Maybe they do, but they don’t have me. I’ll kick their ass from here to eternity.
