The Capture of Mosul: Why It’s Important

By | November 16, 2016

[November 16, 2016]  Most people that I know from Europe or the Americas care nothing about the city of Mosul, the on-going war in Iraq, or the war’s effect on global terror.  A few of them have never even heard of the city and their ignorance was a surprise to me after it being in the news.  The capture of Mosul is important to us all.

A close relative of mine asked me yesterday, “Why is it important that Mosul be captured?”  His question motivated me to write this post. This young man is intelligent, well educated, has a good job, and is responsible in supporting his own family, church, local charities for the homeless, and neighborhood children sports teams.  My astonishment was that such a well-informed person with so many connections could be so unaware.

There are many reasons for this situation; ignorance of terrorism generally being so common.  My purposes here at theLeaderMaker.com is not to go through the reasons why but to provide a commonsense explanation of why Mosul is important for everyone that supports the idea that people should be free and left alone to pursue their own family’s happiness.

A little enlightenment here for those who care little about Mosul.  Make no mistake about it, the Islamic State (IS) is evil, powerful, and yet very attractive to many.  It is a highly effective, brutal, unforgiving military machine that aims to destroy modern values and replace them with a caliphate over the Middle East and eventually the world.  Its complete destruction is in the best interests of everyone in the civilized world.

Mosul is the Islamic State’s Iraqi capital (like Raqqa is its Syria capital) and IS originated in Iraq.  Here are a few of the reasons the capture of Mosul is so important:

  1. It strikes at the heart of the evil Islamic State’s aura of invincibility and its ideological supremacy.
  2. It helps correct America’s moral and military blunder when president Obama carried out a full military withdrawal from Iraq on a predetermined schedule in 2014.
  3. It forces numerous Islamic (both Sunni and Shia) and Western nations to work together for a good cause and builds trust and confidence among their military and political leaders and also among their citizens.
  4. It exposes the ineffective, de facto laissez-faire foreign policy most governments have regarding Islamic terrorism.
  5. and most importantly, it helps prevent the continued spread of the Islamic State’s ideology and the evil it perpetuates.
