College is a Rip-off, Mostly

By | August 18, 2023

[August 18, 2023] Earlier this year, I wrote a popular article titled, Don’t Go to College.  I still stick by that advice.  And I’m not the only one with that opinion.  A New York Post opinion by John Stossel calls college a rip-off and also an “overpriced scam” (link here).  Except for the few who want to pursue a degree in a STEM or Law field, college is indeed a waste of time and worse, it is a breeding ground for anti-Americanism.

Stossel says that another big problem is that our government funds loans, and they don’t care what your major will be or whether it will be helpful for you or your community.  You will owe a lot of money and still work at the local shoe store fitting undersized shoes on hefty women.  Don’t go to college.

An interesting statistic Stossel tells us that nearly half of students given loans don’t graduate from their four-year degree after six years.  That is a fantastic stat.  I remember when I taught an introductory trigonometry course while I was in graduate school and could understand why so many of my first-year students did so poorly on “word questions.”  After digging and private counseling, I discovered many simply could not read.  Now figure that out.

In another amazing statistic, college costs have risen four times the inflation rate over the past 50 years.  Four times!  And now President Biden is trying a run-around the latest Supreme Court decision that denied him the authority to forgive student loans.  Anyone with a brain knows he is just trying to buy votes.  It works with dumb students, so why not?

“College has become a government-substized ripoff.  It’s good that fewer people go.” – John Stossel, NY Post, August 17, 2023

Trade schools are a better bang for the buck; you can get a job anywhere and in any economic environment.  Go that route.  Don’t go to college.  It’s a rip-off, mostly.

One last thing.  When I attended Texas Tech University full time in the 1970s, the in-state tuition was $64 a semester.  Today, it’s $11,852.

So true, college is a total ripoff and today they are a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals who think they are better than you or me. That is a dangerous idea and a key part of woke ideology

Got that right, Gen. Satterfield and I think America is finally waking up to this fact.

Yes, shocking but too many people are still using the old method of going to college for upward mobility and better pay. This only works if you are getting a technical degree. All those Gender Studies, Black Studies, and Women Studies majors are just propaganda mills churning our robots.

College is a rip off is an understatement. Today, outside the STEM areas, a college “education” actually works to your disadvantage.

This topic has been presented in families for years. Some families as African Americans push college to make sure their children get a equal playground. Trade schools are great options and the military for family who can’t afford to sent their children to college. Military service offers a career and help pay for college. The air force have a community college of the air force program which is a two year degree.

I still think college is a huge ripoff today. In the recent past, this was not the case but today, it is not worth the time and money.

… but you went to college to get a 4 year degree and army commission. Aren’t you being a bit hypocritical?

Let us not forget that Gen. Satterfield also does not recommend young people going into the US Army either. Both college and the military are off his recommendation list. And I can see why. When WOKE professors and army generals are more anti-American than our communist enemies, that tells you all you need to know.

I would not recommend joining any military service until they stop being woke. They need to get rid of ALL the generals and admirals that support the woke ideology. As soon as someone sane and not a stupid Democrat gets into the presidency, then kick their butts out.

Hey Gen. Satterfield, another great article to share with my little cousins who loved school. I have got to convince them to go into a trade and not embarrass the family by going to college.

Just what I wanted to hear …. My daughter is headed to college this fall and her major is “undecided.” I already know I’m going to get ripped off for years. And I will have to pay for the entire time of her having sorority parties and being indoctrinated as a modern radical American hating leftist. And, while there she will have at least one abortion and won’t tell her family. Sad. But she “wants” to go.

Is she looking for her MRS degree. If that is the case and she finds a good man, then maybe your dollars are worth it. She just needs to find someone in the STEM fields. ✔

But let’s be honest here. Many of these young folks do turn around and find their place in a STEM field or other worthwhile major. Most do not. Most can barely read and do arithmetic. Most are just uneducated and lack the morals to attend college.

I think there are very few folks who would actually disagree with this assessment. Gen. Satterfield, thanks for pointing it out. More folks need to see it.

Gen. Satterfield nails it again. Looks like the NY Post is finally catching up to Gen. Satterfield. College/Universities have been a ripoff for several decades now. Just look at the last note from Gen. S. about how much tuition at Texas Tech has risen.

Gen. Satterfield, your earlier article was also to the point, as this one is. Thanks for pointing out what I’ve been saying for years now. College is a ripoff for nearly everyone. Don’t go to college unless you have the burning desire to do something very special and you are one heck of a smart person.

I don’t think many folks today will disagree with Gen. Satterfield or the NY Post in their assessment. But, if you want a highly technical degree today, there is no alternative.

YES, the challenge is to avoid the WOKE ness of the crazy professors who have jobs doing nothing but indoctrinating students with the consent of the Administartions.
