Off Topic: Baseball Season Begins

By | April 1, 2014

[April 01, 2014]  This season’s of Major League Baseball has begun.  We begin with a number of interesting tidbits.  But what makes baseball such an addictive game?  It’s slow, boring at times, and has a bunch of guys in their pajamas standing around spitting on the ground and staring at each other.  What could be “worse” we are told… well, it is actually The American Sport.

Baseball does not move as quickly as American football, basketball, or soccer, but it has the largest following of all sports in the world and has the largest revenue.  Five of the teams are worth over $1 Billion (USD) with an average value over $800 Million, according to Forbes.  The opening-day payroll for the Los Angeles Dodgers is the highest in MLB history at $241 Million.

So what is so attractive about baseball?  You first have to understand that baseball is a “game of the heart.”  It is about the feel of the game.  It is about men in competition with one another, about strategy that slowly unfolds as the game proceeds, and it’s about having the patience to see it through – pitting an attitude of strength against the moral force of the other team.

So, with great expectation, I await the full season of play … and I look forward to the anticipation and the experiencing the heart’s desire of a well-played game.
