Talking About Free Speech

[July 6, 2023]  It is not surprising to those paying attention that the U.S. Government has been using social media platforms to suppress free speech.  They have encouraged media giants to remove what they see as “misinformation.”  Gee, what could go wrong with the government telling us what is misinformation?  Plenty.

On July 4th – our Independence Day – “A federal judge in Louisiana restricted the Biden Administration from communicating with social media platforms about broad swaths of content online,” according to the New York Times (article behind a paywall here).  What will we citizens do without government interference in our free speech?  Maybe we might be free.

“In the ruling, Judge Terry A. Doughty of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana said that parts of the government, including the Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, could not talk to social media companies for “the purpose of urging, encouraging, pressuring, or inducing in any manner the removal, deletion, suppression, or reduction of content containing protected free speech.”

Here is the best part of the ruling that is quoted by the New York Times:

If the allegations made by plaintiffs are true, the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history,” the judge said.  “The plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits in establishing that the government has used its power to silence the opposition.” Emphasis mine

Ouch!  “The most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history.”  This ruling is big, very very big.  If you’re looking for a homerun comment on free speech, Judge Terry A. Doughty hit this one out of the park.

I said this before (link here, January 21, 2021), and I will say it again; “Joe Biden does not have the character to be successful as President of the United States.”

    From NY Post by Devine:
“The First Amendment scored a big victory on Independence Day in a landmark free speech lawsuit when a judge temporarily banned federal agencies and White House officials from colluding with social media companies to censor Americans. Of course it’s being appealed, but Tuesday’s injunction by Louisiana District Court Judge Terry Doughty is a blow to the Biden administration’s ability to ban criticism of the president and his policies on social media and otherwise manipulate public discourse ahead of the 2024 election. In a brilliant memo explaining his decision, Doughty likened the administration to an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth.””

      Powerful, indeed. Here is more.
On October 29, 2021, Facebook asked federal officials to provide a “federal health contract” to dictate “what content would be censored on Facebook’s platforms.” Federal officials informed Facebook that the federal health authority that could dictate what content could be censored as misinformation was the CDC.

They need to go directly to jail. After, of course, a lengthy, embarrassing trial where their malfeasance is exposed for the world to see and laugh at.

Nailed it. Free speech might actually have a chance starting now. The Unwoke are getting unwoke.

Free speech is free. Those who claim that speech is hateful or harmful are nuts. The point of speech is a substitute for violence, not violence in itself. Of course, this is not what the Marxist professors are teaching today.

… all the while, the mainstream media is painting those of us who appreciate the actions of this judge as we are some kind of Hitler. What morons. What depraved morons.

The Toad, correct! And if you want to get a look at how the media played its part in the Iraq War then read, “Our Longest Year in Iraq.” Gen. Satterfield exposes the media for what it is, a shill for the Democrat Party and liberal progressive ideology. 😊
