[September 14, 2026] South Jersey is proud to announce that we have Benjamin Franklin from Philadelphia coming to our part of the state. He will be part of our celebration of America’s 250th Birthday, and it’s going to be a spectacular day filled with all sorts of events that you will love.
Ben will be portrayed by Mitchell Kramer, a professional who is a combination of historian, first person interpreter, impersonator, reenactor, lookalike, portrayer, impressionist, actor, performer … whew … lecturer, presenter, speaker, and officiant. Wow, you just can’t make that up. Based out of historic Old City Philadelphia, Ben will be plying his diplomatic skills with the Spirit of 1776 South Jersey organization, bringing an air of history and entertainment to our area.

So, if you want to meet Benjamin Franklin, get your photo taken with him, talk with “the man,” then come out and see him perform on this coming Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Egg Harbor Twp Veterans Memorial Park, 2153 Ocean Heights Avenue in EHT. He plans to be there between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

.Mitchell Kramer is an actor and historian based in historic Old City Philadelphia who is best known for portraying Benjamin Franklin. He earned a B.A. in playwriting and history from Hampshire College and later studied acting at New York’s Circle in the Square conservatory. Kramer has spent about two decades bringing Franklin to life in first-person performances at parks, museums, schools, and public events. He has appeared as Franklin on ABC’s Good Morning America, ESPN and NFL broadcasts, and other national programs. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has said Kramer is the next best thing to a time machine because of his knowledge, poise, and charm. Besides performing, Kramer owns Mitchell Kramer Tours and leads guided walks through Historic Philadelphia. He has also written about eighteenth-century Philadelphia and contributed a story to the book Patriots, Pirates, Heroes & Spies. Earlier in his career he portrayed Major David Salisbury Franks, a Jewish officer in the Continental Army. Kramer lives in a historic Philadelphia house and works with sites Franklin himself helped shape, including the Library Company of Philadelphia. He is often praised for capturing not only Franklin’s look and voice, but also his humor and way of speaking with people. Through lectures, tours, and living-history work, he helps audiences of all ages understand why Franklin still matters.
