Discipline and Sacrifice

By | February 2, 2023

[February 2, 2023]  Discipline means that you can make sacrifices for your future self.  You must understand that today you are not disciplined if you just do more of what you want.

Discipline is when you want to do something right now and instead put it off your gratification.  Do this forever, maybe, but at least for a very long time.  You concentrate on something that will bear fruit in the medium and long run.  That is the kind of decision you want to make.

Look into the future and decide that by making today a little less impulsive and pleasurable.  Make tomorrow a bit more secure and productive, and then you do it too.  That isn’t easy.

Humans have watched people who are successful and at how they succeed, and the unsuccessful fail.  Failure is good, but only if we take the right lessons from it.  Watch someone fail and then say to yourself, “Hey, I’m not going to make that same mistake.”  That is doing that which we should all do.

We thought about these acts of those who have been successful and unsuccessful for thousands of years.  From that, we have drawn some basic conclusions.  The successful among us sacrifice, and they delay gratifica

The most successful among us bargain with the future.

That is why so many of us are sticking with this leadership blog. We love to add something tiny but important to our self each and every day. Get on with us and bring more people into the fold and read this blog often. And get a copy of the books that Gen. Satterfield has written. see the above links to Amazon.

Eek …….. Discipline means that you can make sacrifices for your future self. You must understand that today you are not disciplined if you just do more of what you want. I do believe Gen. Satterfield is all over this idea. Discipline (not punishment) but holding out to meet at least the minimum standards (or going beyond) is what we are all after.

A cornerstone article for sure. Discipline is a great concept to explore. We can do it becuase our lives will be better for adopting a path that takes us that way. But it also means we must have great insight into where we are each going.

Look into your future. If you need someone to talk to about it, let’s hope you have someone you can trust. Only by looking into your future (a vision of yourself ) can you really tag those behaviors you need to stay on the right path.

.. we can compliment each other all day long, but that in and of itself does not get us anywhere. We need to be bringing up some better ideas and work on them. Here in this forum it works. And dont forget to get a copy of Gen. Satterfield’s book “55 Rules for a Good Life.” Thanks all and enjoy this upcoming weekend.

What did US Army General George Patton say? Something like if everyone is thinking the same, then we are in deep trouble.

Gen. Doug Satterfield wrote, “Humans have watched people who are successful and at how they succeed, and the unsuccessful fail. Failure is good, but only if we take the right lessons from it. So, get your brain out and get it going now. ha ha. ..,… just a few random thoughts.
