Jordan Peterson and Wrongthink

By | January 14, 2023

[January 14, 2023]  Yesterday, I wrote about Professor Mark J. Perry (link here) and labeled him a hero for his work fighting against sex and race discrimination in our colleges and universities.  And now, today, I want to address a man who has influenced my writing.  His name is psychologist, Dr. Jordan Peterson.  He is being accused of publicly saying things on Twitter that may best be described as wrongthink.

According to Dr. Peterson, about a “dozen people” from around the world complained to the College of Psychologists of Ontario that his statements had caused “harm.”  This group oversees licenses to practice psychology.  Based on complaints, they told him that if he didn’t go to therapy, it might revoke his license to practice psychology.

“The comments at issue appear to undermine the public trust in the profession as a whole and raise questions about your ability to carry out your responsibilities as a psychologist.” – notification to Dr. Peterson from the College of Psychologists of Ontario, November 2022

The College demands that Dr. Peterson undergo a re-education program and sign off on the following statement: “I may have lacked professionalism in public statements and during a January 25, 2022 podcast appearance.”  No one who knows this man believes he will satisfy such a demand.  Dr. Peterson posted their demands on Twitter and said publically he formally refuses to comply.

Of course, the message is not about Dr. Peterson but is designed to intimidate would-be dissenters.  It means to comply with our politics or risk losing your livelihood.  In this, the College joins a growing list of non-state institutions that weld the power of the government to control our lives.

There is more!  Dr. Peterson said that the College went one step further by referring him to a therapist for daring to speak his mind.  It has made political disagreement into a mental illness.  The Soviet Union used this method of removing political dissentients from the public realm.

This whole affair is chilling to the freedom of speech and thought.  And the punishment of wrongthink takes priority over the free exchange of ideas.  This is a movement in our institutions toward totalitarianism and the final destruction of the highest purpose of education and government and those institutions.

I hope Prof. Peterson kicks some real butt here and makes the tyrant wannabes pay a heavy price for their anti-free speech and anti-democratic approach.

Sad news that this is happening to this great thinker. You see, thinking is frowned upon by the Marxists in higher education and esp. in psychology.

“Wrongthink” – – – who would have known. Of all people Dr. Jordan Peterson is the wrong guy to pick on. The College of Wrongthink at Ontario will regret that decision.

Our Western institutions are turning to tribalism and if you are not in their tribe, then you are persona non grata. I wonder why? The reason, I think, is that it is an easy way of living. You dont have to think for yourself and you have fewer responsibilities. The opposite of what makes you a good person.

Too many folks wear their emotions on their sleeves are have not learned to be mature and thoughtful. That is the exact opposite of rabid partisan hacks at the College of Psychologists of Ontario. These men and women have taken freedom and turned it upside down and are now championing tyranny. Crazy.

You’re right Jo. thanks. We have a great group of those willing to call out the dictators in our mist. And yet the vast majority of folks are just sheep who would rather graze in the pasture of life than be the hero who stands for the oppressed.

We have a really sad situation here when it is very easy to see the similarities of action and reasons of action in this case against Jordan Peterson. Thank you Purse for the link to a good article.

First, I forgot to say happy New Year, so there, I wrote it. Second, this problem with the Nazi-like or Soviet-like trashing of a good man goes beyond the pale. What is up with these tyrants like Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden. Tyrants are everywhere now a days.

Another excellent blog post so thanks Gen. Satterfield. Oh, you should start a series on the crash of Canada. It would be very very helpful, in particular for those of us who live there.

What amazes me is that anyone in the College of Psychologists of Ontario could be so stupid as to invoke this type of punishment for someone who happens to be very visible in the international community, esp. the West, and then attack them on such a thinly veiled excuse. Shame on them. So what that Peterson happens to have a different political take. The college really does need to be disbanded and those on it should be exposed for what they are … wannabe dictators. Do not fire them from their jobs but expose their evil for what it is.

Great article and I wish Dr. Peterson the best of luck in dealing with the authoritarians. It is also clear to me that these same people are the ones who are quick to adopt Soviet-style punishments and yet deny their Marxist origins. I wonder why that is, or are they so ignorant of history that they are simply blind to what they do?

Don’t expect the psychopaths who run Canada like Justin Trudeau(x) to actually do anything at all that helps their country. It’s all about the state and screw any citizen that gets in their way. Neo-Marxism continues its march in a once great nation like Canada.

No one should be surprised w/ the direction of Progressivism in Canada. They’ve been moving in this direction for a few years now and they are way ahead of the rest of the world in their death spiral. Thank you Audrey.

Yes, and shockingly so. Dr. Peterson has been attacking this tyrannical drift in Canada as we should be doing in the US.

Absolutely shocking. Reminds me of the Soviet Unions attack on dissidents.

Great article to let us know what is happening to one of the greatest thinkers in the West. Gets me to thinking about the Nazis banning Jews and others during their reign.

If you are surprised by this tyrannical attack on Dr. Peterson, then you haven’t been paying much attention to the world. I’m not surprised. There has been a consistent tyrannical march from the govts of the US and Canada and the UK now for at least since Pres Biden and PM Trudeau were elected. Says something about ‘liberalism’ and that is not good.
