[May 25, 2026] Today, Memorial Day, calls all us Americans to honor and remember those who died defending our nation. Their sacrifice secures our freedoms. And don’t ever forget that fact, or the honor of our fallen will be lost on this day, the most ‘expensive’ holiday on our calendar. That, my friends, is the heart of Memorial Day.
It’s easy to forget what today’s about or its costs because people treat it as a vacation day. And there is nothing wrong with having a barbecue, going water skiing, or doing whatever you want. That’s great. That’s freedom. We’re proud to have Americans enjoy their day off. But do so remembering that you’re allowed to do those things because a very small number of men and women have chosen to stand and protect your ability to do that.
What should we be thinking about on Memorial Day?
Let us speak plainly and with reverence: do not reduce this solemn occasion to a simple “Happy Memorial Day.” It is a day of remembrance, deep reflection, and grateful pride.
While we may gather with family and friends for laughter and fun, we do so with full awareness that these joys exist only because others gave everything.
Skip the parades if you must; better yet, bring your children and grandchildren. Let them see the folded flags, hear the mournful notes of Taps, and understand the cost of liberty. Visit the cemeteries. Walk slowly among the stones. Read their names so they can be heard. Place your hand on the headstones and whisper your thanks. Pray for their souls. Feel the full power of that sacred inscription found on so many monuments: “For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
Also, remember that the fallen were ordinary people: farmers, shopkeepers, students, each thrust into extraordinary duty. In Civil War fields, European beaches, Korean hills, Vietnamese jungles, and Middle Eastern deserts, they paid with blood. They were there to liberate, not to conquer.
Our living Veterans see our cemeteries and remember that the ground holds their comrades, those who fought and died alongside them. Each marker in that holy ground whispers freedom’s price. We owe them respect, gratitude, and vigilance to uphold their legacy. Their roll call grows; tyranny persists.
Enjoy the weekend’s freedoms because they died for them. Also, reach out to Veterans. Listen to their stories. The fallen’s courage demands that we live worthy of their gift to us. God bless those who served and those who gave all. America remembers.
God bless every American who served. God bless those who gave all. And God bless the United States of America, the home of the free and the land of the brave, because of them.

As a veteran, Memorial Day hits hard as I remember brothers who never came home. We fought together for this nation’s freedom, paying with blood. Their sacrifice demands we honor them every year without fail. Standing here today, I’m proud yet humbled by their courage. God bless our fallen and keep their memory alive in all of us.
Key battles: Gettysburg (Civil War, 1863), Normandy D-Day (WWII, 1944), Iwo Jima (WWII, 1945), Battle of the Bulge (WWII, 1944-45).
On this Memorial Day, we honor the brave heroes who sacrificed everything for our freedom. Their courage inspires us all to cherish liberty.
