U.N. Officials Use Discredited Dresden Defense

By | January 4, 2024

[January 4, 2024]  In early December last year, Hillel Neuer gave testimony before the U.S. Congress.  He strongly condemned what he called the Dresden Defense by U.N. officials regarding the Israeli war against Hamas.  His words are powerful and convincing.

Hillel Neuer is a Canadian-born international lawyer, writer, and the Executive Director of U.N. Watch based out of Geneva, Switzerland.  His organization does an outstanding job bringing deep U.N. corruption, anti-Semitism, anti-Democratic, and pro-Hamas activities to light.

In his brief time before the U.S. Congress, he slammed the U.N.’s use of the Dresden Defense to conflate Hamas’s unprovoked attacks on innocent Israeli civilians and Israel’s meticulous, targeted, but unavoidable attacks on Palestinians (the majority of which nevertheless support the October 7 massacre of Israelis).

“U.N. officials have repeatedly said: ‘Yes …. 1,400 people were massacred by Hamas.’  ‘But now thousands of Palestinians are killed.’  That argument was made before.  It was actually made at the Nürnberg Trails when the Einsatzgruppen, the Nazi death squads that moved around in Europe that killed a million Jews and a million others.”

Neuer is reminding us that this defense was made once before to justify the Nazi war machine of killing millions of innocent civilians.  Some captured Nazi officers tried to use the Dresden Defense at their trials, conducted in Nürnberg, Germany from 1946 to 1947.

“When they were brought to justice at Nürnberg, one of their arguments was the Dresden Defense.  To say, ‘Yes, we may have done these killings, but you, the Allies, you killed civilians when you bombed Dresden and other cities.’  And that was wholly rejected by the Nürnberg court.  The notion that this Nazi defendant was trying to make – that the deliberate and purposeful killing of civilians was equal to the taking of civilian lives that is undesired, unintended, and unavoidable was absolutely rejected.  These are completely two different things.”

And this is where Neuer hammers home his point:

“The essence of civilization is to distinguish between these two.  And sadly, at the United Nations, we are seeing this scandalous Dresden Defense being brought up again and again to equate the purposeful, deliberate killing of civilians, which is a crime to equate it with the taking of civilian lives that is undesired, unintended, but unavoidable.  That should be rejected completely.”

Years ago, in 2004, I wrote an Army War College research paper that received considerable acclaim, declaring that the United Nations was wholly corrupt and should be dismantled and replaced with an organization that follows the U.N.’s original charter.

Gen. Satterfield sure knows how to slam the United Nations. Using the Dresden Defense, which I must admit that I’d never heard of until I read this article, is downright shameful and shows a total lack of historical knowledge in one of the most important war trials ever conducted.

…. shame on the United Nations for their anti-Semitic ideas and actions. The agency needs to be shut down immediately.

I agree with you Melissa. But they have no shame because it is all about being anti-Christian and anti-Democracy.

Facts! Thank you Melissa for stating what should be obvious and that their anti-UN bias at the UN should be defunded, and those working there permanently barred from ever working in the UN ever again.

The “Dresden Defense” was rejected after WW2 and now we have forgotten our own history. Were people smarter then, compared to now? I think YES.

I strongly agree with you my friend. I support change if it’s going to make things better.

Change is not going to happen this year in 2024. The United Nations needs new and real leadership, not the wimpy stuff we are seeing today. Thanks Eddie for reinforcing Gen. Satterfield on this one. The United Nations is a horrific organization that has failed its own mandate. And now we see that the UN and the International Red Cross is in bed with Hamas.

Another powerful article. This article has far more usefulness than the simple discredited Dresden Defense. It show us that there are arguments that can be defeated properly by looking at how they were defeated in the past. Or how similar arguments were defeated. Let us not forget about Nazism, Fascism, and Imperialism or the much bigger killer, Communism. These can be discredited if we only pay close attention to older arguments. The neo-Marxists of today like to think they are immune from these older criticisms, they are not. So, the lesson is to arm yourself intellectually.

Indeed, great way to draw attention to this. But, and this is a big “but”, we need to be upfront and seen if we are to counter insidious ideologies, those that destroy.

Wow, I had not heard this before and great thanks for showing it to us. The illicit use of the Dresden Defense can now be exposed by the ordinary person. Great job Gen. S. on this article. If there are new folks here reading your blog, this is a classic example of useful info for a leader and for a person who doesn’t want to be tricked into accepted any stupid ideology like socialism or communism.

Gen. Satterfield makes sure that Mr. Neuer is quoted in full from the video (I verified by listening to it). This is very important and everyone with an once of sense must understand the differences here to counter the crazy political neo-Marxist left.

Saul, thank you for pointing this out. The bottom line, as Gen. Satterfield likes to write, is that we have a moral obligation to understand the issues of the day and to counter those who would put forth oversimplistic ideas that actually support evil.

I’ve always seen the United Nations, once a great organization, as being taken over by small, tyrannical governments that are anti-American and anti-Isreali and anti-democratic. Indeed, all of them worship at the feet of false idols and esp. Islam, a religion of terror.

Ouch, I’m not so sure that Islam is a religion of terror but we do know that it is based upon converting people to Islam and if they don’t then they die.

I agree that Islam is not the problem but how it is used. So there is currently a crises in Islam that THEY must overcome.
