When Leaders Fail: Texas Democrats

By | August 12, 2025

[August 12, 2025]  This past Friday, the political world got a lesson in basic leadership principles: do your job, or fail. By now, most folks have heard about Texas Democrats fleeing the state to prevent a vote on redistricting in the Texas House. We’re about to see how failed leadership carries a hefty price tag.

“What we’re getting is a really, really terrible image that hurts our country and certainly hurts my party.” — Doug Schoen, pollster and former President Clinton advisor

The fleeing Texas Democrats pulled a political stunt straight out of a child’s playbook and picked up their toys and went home. But they are elected officials, and the rules are different, strict, and have the force of Texas law. Stunts designed to impede the state’s political process from operating are illegal in this state.

The Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, sued the absent Democrats and Beto O’Rourke for paying for their trips as they avoided constitutional duties the Democrats swore to uphold. This TRO injunction also cut off O’Rourke’s funding.

“These cowards deliberately sabotaged the constitutional process. Their out-of-state rebellion cannot go unchecked, and the business of Texans must go on.” — Ken Paxton, Texas AG

These legislators, narrowed to 13 who don’t plan to come back soon (or at all), are “willfully absent and are choosing to engage in politically motivated grandstanding.”  Public comments by these 13 are the grounds for the basis of the lawsuit.

Texas Democrat politician and former presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke also got slapped with a lawsuit about his illegal contributions to the legislators, which were considered bribes. And he was forced to cease.

“Using political funds for the improper, unlawful, and non-political purposes of (1) funding out of state travel, hotel, or dining accommodations or services to unexcused Texas legislators during any special legislative session called by the Texas Governor, or (2) funding payments of fines provided by Texas House rules for unexcused legislative absences.” — page 2 from Temporary Restraining Order

Beto, you screwed up on this one. And those 13 Texas legislators are in for some big trouble. The two parties’ objections will be heard on August 19th to determine whether a temporary injunction or a more permanent solution is required.

“I think this is very damaging to the Democrat brand. For those in my party who say we should be more aggressive, we should fight the Republicans. I think you stand and fight, not cut and run, which is what they’ve done. … I would go back and make your arguments.  Say what you’re for.” — Doug Schoen

This Doug Schoen knows what he is talking about. Childish behavior. That damages any brand.

Stunt fleeing out of the state fails.
Everyone sees the Democrats for what they are …. lemmings.

Failure is a requirement now in the Dem Party. Too bad this is destroying lives and warping the minds of our young, as they capture them into their socialist/Marxist ideology that makes them all feel good and allows them to feel morally superior. At least that happens for a short period of time, and then one day … wham … they snap out of it and look back and say “man, I was major stupid.”

Failure is not an option for Texas Democrats, its a feature of their current state of mind.

DPG, sad but I have to say you are correct. My aunt and uncle on my mother’s side have turned into crazy folks, yelling, screaming, throwing furniture, and destroying anything at all in their home or in the stores they go to that might have any connection to Donald J. Trump. Yeah, we joke about them having TDS but it’s real and it’s dangerous. They’ve always been on the emotional side, and that’s okay becuase it meant they were close to us but over the past year, they’ve gone totally into crazy land and don’t seem willing to see anything other then Trump-Trump-Trump everywhere as wanting to take away their “rights.” When ever I ask for specifics, the blow up and will curse, yell, and then throw me out of their home. It’s got to the point where I’m not going to be able to talk with them. They are pushing everyone away. It’s all emotion. No thinking at all. They need hellp.

False Idols, looks like they need an “intervention.” More than a psychologcal problem but they have a deep seated hatred that burns hard and also, sadly, destroys the vessel that the hate is held within.

Let’s wait and see how well this works out. I think the end result will be the final judge whether their “political stunt” was worth it.

The Texas governor should sue them and kick them out, redistrict them out or use whatever means. Not only is their bad leadership and violating to uphold the Texas state constitution (which says they must carry out their duties in person), they are stopping the will of the citizens of Texas. And for that reason(s) I oppose these clowns childish antics. Does not the Democrat Party have any values other than to just oppose what the Republicans are doing? How about they put up something other than Marxism.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, these Texas Democrats are violating their oath of office and deserve a stiff and swift kick in the butt. If that means being thrown out of office, so be it.
