Maduro Seized: What Now?

By | January 4, 2026

[January 4, 2026]  The U.S. seized Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and his wife yesterday morning, placing them under arrest for a long list of drug and terrorist activities.  Congratulations are in order!  But, what now?

Maduro and his wife are likely headed to Guantanamo, Cuba, where we keep some of the nastiest of criminals and terrorists.  He deserves a life-long membership in that prison.  But first, he will be tried in New York, where indictments were handed down a few years ago.

Little is new about Maduro and his ilk.  The only thing that kept him from facing justice is that under Presidents Obama and Biden, nothing was done.  Here is my article about Venezuela’s experiment with socialism, ten years ago:

“I’ve written about the failure of Venezuela here at theLeaderMaker.com on several occasions (links here, here, and here). Venezuela remains economically afloat through a combination of selling oil from its vast reserves and increasingly on illegal drug trafficking. The world is aware of the Venezuelan leadership turning the country into a global cocaine hub.  Typical of socialist countries, Venezuela operates its economy, not through the hard work of its citizens, but from exploiting natural resources; in this case oil and cocaine.” – May 27, 2015

As Secretary of State Marco Rubio said at a press conference yesterday morning, “We have a president that means what he says.”  I watched Trump make his comments on the military-law action and then take questions.  What I liked about it was that Trump spoke of a plan to run Venezuela with his own team, plus leaders already inside that country.

It is now clear that we are about to turn an enemy nation, right on our doorstep (Monroe Doctrine anyone?), into an ally.  For obvious cultural and political reasons, this will be unusually difficult, but knowing Trump, he will get it done expediously.

The only thing slowing him down will be allies of Venezuela (Russia, North Korea, and China) and the Democrat Party, opposing him at every opportunity.  We are already hearing from them that Trump has violated both International Law and domestically, the War Powers Resolution (see note below).

America’s actions appear to be going over well in Venezuela.  We are seeing citizens partying in the streets, tearing down posters and billboards of Maduro, and the takeover of Maduro’s police and government buildings.  There is more celebrating by Venezuelans in Spain, Mexico, the U.S., and South America.

The road to Venezuelan prosperity is a long way off.  And that road will be bumpy and there will be setbacks.  Maduro stripped the country of its wealth in another failed socialist experiment.  How many more times do we have to see this ideology fail before we stop trying it out?

Venezuela will succeed as long as President Trump can get what he wants.  And America will gain from it as well.

NOTE: The War Powers Resolution (also known as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 or the War Powers Act) (50 U.S.C. ch. 33) is a federal law intended to check the U.S. president’s power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress.  The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States. The resolution was passed by two-thirds each of the House and Senate, overriding the veto of President Richard Nixon.

In the last days of the Biden administration, our State Department increased the reward for the “arrest and/or conviction” of Nicolás Maduro to $25 million. So does Donald Trump get the $25 million? Joe Biden accused Trump of being soft on Maduro: “Trump talks tough on Venezuela, but admires thugs and dictators like Nicolas Maduro. As President, I will stand with the Venezuelan people and for democracy.” Joe Biden was a moron. Oh, still is a MORON with capital letters. And to think so many millions of deluded idiots voted for that evil man.

I heard that Maduro had met with a Chinese diplomatic mission just an hour or so before the US “seized” him, and gave him a free trip to America. Wow, the Chinese must have put in a call to the U.S. so Maduro got took. Maybe it was that Chinese phone he was showing off recently. Either way, the Chinese gave up their man to get on the good side of DJT.

I heard they were there. I disagree Danny. The Chinese didn’t give him up. They gave him a “secure” phone that was not secure. Ha Ha. They got taken. A major embarrassment for the Chinese. 🤮

According to a New York Times article on Maduro’s capture, this is all illegal. Whether a military or law enforcement action by the U.S. government is “legal” or “illegal” depends on whether the president is a Republican or a Democrat. So, bombing Libya, creating massive civil disorder and thus driving Qaddafi out of power was A-OK. Killing American citizens with missile strikes was regrettable, but certainly “legal,” when Obama was the president. But capturing a wanted narco-trafficer in a brilliantly executed surgical strike? Illegal!

What? You mean the NYT has double standards? Well, if they didn’t have double standards then they would have no standards at all. 👍

Say it’s not true. Hillary cackled “We came, we saw, he died”. The fall of Qaddafi, made possible the murder of Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans. Instead of rescuing the Ambassador, Obama and Hillary brainstormed on who to blame. They decided on a Coptic Christian’s video that had 300 views. When asked, Obama said “We didn’t do anything because there was nothing we could do”.
        There’s so much more.
