The New Confederacy

By | November 26, 2025

[November 26, 2025]  In his most recent article titled “Insurrection Chic,” Dr. Victor Davis Hanson highlights what he sees as the Democrat Party embracing a neo-Confederate defiance of federal authority.  Democrats have become the new Confederacy, much like the old Confederacy of the U.S. Civil War.

“Those are fighting words, young man.”  It’s no secret that I’m a fan of VDH, as I’ve used his analysis on big topics here.  And, I’m glad to be a student of his lessons on history, especially the history of the United States.  His coverage of various wars and his insights into the aftermath of these wars are highly educational, as he challenges our fundamental understanding of war and civil democratic discourse.

That’s why I found his latest article fascinating, as he revisits how an American political party’s strategy to win voters led them to adopt outdated methods from the past. That strategy, which we observe coming from the “insurrectionary wing” of the Democrat Party, has become a internal battle the party is winning.

VDH compares this Democrat Party insurrectionist move to the likes of Jefferson Davis, Alabama Governor George Wallace, and our most recent January 6th “insurrection,” which now openly talks about their proud nullification of our nation’s federal laws.

“Democrats weirdly boast of the subordination of the Constitution to international statutes. Our governors and mayors in blue states and cities take neo-Confederate vows to oppose the national government’s right to protect its own property, to direct its own employees, and to enforce our shared federal laws.”- Dr. Victor Davis Hanson, Insurrection Chic, November 24, 2025

The receipts are in. About a decade ago, roughly 600 “sanctuary cities” declared that “they were immune from the full enforcement of federal law.” As VDH notes, this is strange coming from them since their past political platforms stated they would prevent all would-be illegal aliens from unlawfully entering the U.S. This shifted when open borders were seen as a vote for their party.

“How strange that our current “principled” district judges once ruled that states could not interfere with federal border policing—even in cases where the federal government was illegally refusing to enforce its own laws.  But now they’ve become neo-Confederates who routinely favor states blocking the federal government when it is finally fulfilling its constitutional duties.”

For example, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has stated that he will actively resist ICE enforcement. Johnson said he would call the UN to prevent federal law enforcement from taking illegal aliens into custody. Bizarre! And, we have mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani, who said he will override federal law as the newest mayor of New York City and arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, should he arrive at the UN in the city.

Like Johnson, Mamdani appeals to the “superior” international law. In other words, American law that conflicts with it is considered “unconstitutional.” This suggests that the International Criminal Court has more legal authority within America than the U.S. government itself. VDH is quick to notice the similarity with the infamous Confederate Attorney General Judah Benjamin, who often boasted about how insurrectionist states could legally ignore federal authority.

The latest insurrectionary act of nullification is the “seditionist” video I discussed in “Dem ‘Illegal Orders’ Ad Violates American Principle.” Are our troops now expected to decide individually whether orders from President Trump are legal or illegal? However, this video does pose a danger to many, as someone might take its advice to disobey an order, risking lives.

“What the Democrats did not say is that they cut the video to implant a false narrative that Trump was on the verge of issuing unconstitutional orders, and they were encouraging mass and politicized disobedience, after the previous failure of the shutdown, mass street protests, attacks on ICE agents, and Tesla dealerships.”

The end goal of the Democrat Party’s political strategy is to damage the Presidency of Donald Trump. They despise him intensely. And they believe they are above the law because they see themselves as our “moral and intellectual superiors.”

“This is the left’s own neo-Confederate making.”

It seems to me that most Democrats and all their far-Left minions are stuck hard in a four-year old level of immaturity. They lash out like the biting, stealing, ego driven kid who never grew out of taking toys and candy from other kids (and enjoying what they do).

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all here. And, to Gen. Satterfield, thank you also for your service. For one day, this day, maybe we can ignore the Leftists in our country (primarily made up of bots from Russia and Pakistan) and fat, stupid, ugly, propagandized young white women.

Jason, right! Elon Musk unveiled the location of all these “pro-Gazan” accounts and anti-Trump accounts and found out that they were from neither Gaza or America but were bots. Funny how that works out. At the same time, it slammed home to these Leftist crazies, egged on by the likes of the Sedition Six and other whacko Democrats, that they don’t actually have the popular support of our citizenry that they thought. They are just a small, fringe minority of narcissist 10-year-olds who never grew out of being a bratty kid. And many of the Sedition Six (love that name) are claiming to be victims of mean old conservatives just because they said Trump might be giving illegal orders. Yeah, no one’s buying that load of crap.

Gen. Satterfield is giving us a fair review of the Leftists and we are finally learning that no one likes them.

No wonder that Dr. Hanson calls them the new Confederacy. The parallels are striking. ✝

The Leftists continue to provide more details of their “Mein Kampf”. If they take over the Presidency and both houses of Congress we can expect the entire weight of the Federal government to be turned against anyone who is not part of the Democrat nomenklatura.

VDH also has a YouTube video on this same idea. Here is the core of his argument:
“What the Democrats did not say is that they cut the video to implant a false narrative that Trump was on the verge of issuing unconstitutional orders, and they were encouraging mass and politicized disobedience, after the previous failure of the shutdown, mass street protests, attacks on ICE agents, and Tesla dealerships.”

The bottom line is that Democrats are having their butts handed to them because they serve ZERO value at this time. Their only defense is to double down on their retarded behavior. Even as we saw recently in the news about the “Seditious Six” now claiming to be the victims (a default position of all good socialists). It looks like wokeness is crumbling before them, and they are scared of the American people holding the accountable.

I’m a regular reader of VDH. If he writes something, it is worth the time to read it. I also recommend his several books, these help shape our understanding of the world, and the post-WWI era especiallu is attractive.

The Democrat Party is becoming, again, the new Confederate Party. Hmmmmm intriguing idea. I know they want it. Now, guide them to it by shaming them. Oh, that is the kind of idea they will not want.

It is difficult to argue with Dr. Hanson. He is one of our most respected historians who just happens to have his expertise to address these issues. He warns us not to repeat the mistakes of the past, which, of course, we do exactly that. He warns our politicians about the abject failure of socialism and communism, which is the shinny object on the horizon that our uneducated young folks flock to. Why? Because it makes them feel morally and “intellectually” superior to everyone else. Thank you Gen. Satterfield and I just bought your book “55 Rules for a Good Life” and I’m loving it so far. Keep more books by you coming our way.

Hi Lady Sue, welcome to Gen. Satterfield’s leadership forum, where we debate and analyze some of the basic concepts behind both leadership and how to be a “good” person. I hope you join us in the future to help us all understand it better.
